Report speech explain

 Report tone or indirect style is used to tell what someone said without using the exact words the person said.

She said she was coming to class. I told you that I can't come. You say you will help me! The verb tense is also modified according to its relationship to the present moment, which usually means

moving it to the past (for example, from the simple present to the simple past, as in the previous sentence).
